EN The concept of using waste heat from an electrolysis plant is presented as an example of partially supplying a residential area with district heating from renewable energies. Here, renewable power supply, green heat supply, climate‑neutral mobility and drinking water treatment are combined. The basis here is formed by wind turbines and photovoltaic areas as a source of green electricity. These feed an electrolyser that splits water into hydrogen and oxygen while producing waste heat. The waste heat is to be used to supply district heating to a residential area by bringing it up to the required grid temperature using a heat pump system. The hydrogen is to be used for mobility purposes, powering fuel cell vehicles. In a ater step, the by‑product oxygen is to be used in local wastewater treatment. Excess electricity from the wind turbines and photovoltaics will be fed into the public grid. Redundancy is provided by the CHP plant of the local biogas plant and a natural gas heating plant. Limited capabilities in the partial load behavior of electrolysers and economic constraints necessitate require careful design of the electrolyser in terms of its performance and annual full‑load operating hours.
